We take safety and security seriously. It is important that we maintain a safe and caring community so that learning can take place.

Visitors & Volunteers

Our school is a closed campus. All visitors and volunteers must report directly to the main office to sign-in. Students should not invite friends to visit the school. Individuals found on school property who do not have legitimate business with the school and who have not registered in the main office may be charged with trespassing while on school property. The School Act provides for fines of up to one thousand dollars.

School Photos/ID Cards

Our photography partners at Lifetouch will be at Dr. E.P. Scarlett during late August to provide school photos and ID cards to students. The schedule of days for photography is as follows:

Grade 10 Students – Monday, August 25, 9 AM to 3:30 PM

Grade 11 & 12 Students – Tuesday, August 26,  9 AM to 3:30 PM

All Remaining Students Still Needing Photos/ ID – Wednesday, August 27, 9 AM to 3:30 PM

For students who are unavailable to come into the school during these dates, Lifetouch returns to Dr. E.P. Scarlett on September 9, 2025, to take photos again.

Accidents

The details of any accident are to be reported immediately, either to a teacher or to the Main Office for appropriate documentation and/or communication.

Student Searches

In the event that school safety and security is a concern, administration has the right to complete searches of student lockers, student property or personal belongings at any time.

School Resource Officer

We have a School Resource Officer (SRO). The role of the SRO is to break down barriers and preconceived notions of the Police. The goal is to build relationships with students and establish a positive relationship between students and the Calgary Police Service. They are a resource for any issues regarding the law and support the school work with students who are experiencing issues such as bullying, social media, and harassment. We use the SRO to work in conjunction with students to educate and enable better decisions to become positive members of the community.

Lockdowns

All CBE schools are required to practice lockdowns in the same way that we practice fire drills. The procedures for lockdowns are developed with the Calgary Police Service and are part of each school’s Emergency Response Plan. If you have questions about lockdown drills or lockdown procedures, please contact your principal.

Evacuation Procedures

In the event that the school needs to be evacuated for any reason, all staff have been trained according to CBE standards. All schools have a primary and a secondary evacuation site. In the event of an evacuation, you will receive an email, phone or SMS notification from the school.

Video Surveillance Technology

The Calgary Board of Education may install and use video surveillance technology at select schools to support maintaining a safe and secure environment and to help control vandalism and criminal activity on school property.

Personal information gathered by video surveillance is collected under the authority of the Education Act and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP) section 33(b). The users of this information are the principal or designate and law enforcement personnel in the case of reported incidents that would require an investigation. Only authorized persons will review video surveillance information.

This technology is considered a complement to, and not a replacement for, CBE's strategies in supporting a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment for students and staff.

Approval, installation and use of video surveillance technology will comply with Administrative Regulation 1066.

For questions or concerns, please contact the school principal.
