Dear Parents & Guardians,
We have had a busy and exciting September! Welcome week activities are coming up including our Clubs Fair. More news to come and in the coming week our Clubs information will be updated on our website to assist students and parents. We have had a very smooth school start up. Our students have been very supportive of each other and in creating a safe and caring school. We are incredibly appreciative of our students and parents for their support in helping us create a safe and supportive school community.
How Do I Call in a Student Absence?
Please note that when calling in your child’s absence or late, press 1 after calling the main school line, 403-281-3366. Please leave the caller’s name, the name of the student and the reason for the absence. Thank you in advance for taking the time to spell the last name of the student. Calls left after 2:30 pm will be entered in the morning.
Scarlett Weight and Fitness Room
The weight and fitness room will be open after school from Monday to Thursday from 3:50 to 5:00. Students need to ensure they have an Acknowledgement of Risk form signed by their parents prior to being able to use the room. Forms are available in the Main Office or the weight room next week from Mr. McMillian or Mr. McKillop.
Lockers
Thank you to all students who have completed information to get a locker. At this time, you should have received information to whichever email you registered with. If there are any problems with lockers don’t hesitate to reach out to Mr. Wutzke at jbwutzke@cbe.ab.ca.
Walking Distance Field Trips
At times, teachers may choose to walk down to local areas for learning opportunities. Teachers will notify you by email or on D2L. Please find the information about those trips in this letter: Walking Distance Field Trips Annual Letter | 2026-2027.
Mandatory Music Parents Meeting in Scarlett Theatre
Sept 15 Music Parents Meeting in Scarlett Theatre (one parent/ guardian from each family required)
Registration and Fees were due on Sept 10. If you have not done so already, please visit the following website and complete your registration: epscarlettmusic.com If your child has rented an instrument from Scarlett, please return the signed rental contracts this coming week.
Music Program Parent Meeting being held at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, September 15. Parents from all grades of band and choir are to attend. We will meet this once to cover many important details about this music program, how it works, and the plans for the year. We will also be holding a field trip meeting that will cover the in-city field trips, the Choir/Gr. 10 Band Camp, and the Vic Lewis Music Festival (Gr. 11/12 band). One parent/legal guardian from each family is required.
September 15 Schedule:
- 6:15 PM Meet & Greet Teachers, Sign in, Collect handouts
- 6:30 - 7:20 PM Music Program Meeting and EPSMPA Annual General Meeting
- 7:20 - 7:40 PM Field Trips Meeting - All grade 10, 11, 12 Band and choir local trips
The EPSMPA supports the band program with volunteers, fundraising and event organization. We wanted to let you know now the specific positions on the EPSMPA council that are vacant so you can think about joining us. In addition to these specific positions, we welcome anyone who just wants to learn what we are all about to be a Member at Large and choose your own area of specialty.
Vacant positions: Treasurer, Uniform assistant/trainee for 2027/28, Volunteer Coordinator, Moonlight Knights Chair and/or co-chair, CSEC coordinator assistant/trainee for 2027/28 (this is coordinating the volunteer fundraising opportunity with the Calgary Flames/Stampeders).
Student Leadership – Speaker Ian Tyson
On Wednesday September 16 Dr. E.P. Scarlett is pleased to welcome a keynote speaker, Ian Tyson, who will be giving a presentation to our entire student body. Ian has been a professional speaker since 1989, and performs for tens of thousands of people each year at hundreds of businesses, conferences and educational institutions across North America. Ian focuses his speaking on leadership, optimism and resilience, while bringing positivity and intention into every presentation. We are so excited to welcome Ian to our school!
Terry Fox Run/Walk

Fall Language Course Challenge
If you are interested in participating in the Fall Language Course Challenge, you must attend the information session on Monday, September 14th at 11: 50 in the Learning Commons (Lab A).
Consent forms will be handed out at the Information Session and due back by September 25. Grade 10, 11 and 12 students are eligible, however priority will be given to grade 12 students. Consult with your Guidance Counsellor for a list of languages offered and if you have questions around eligibility.

Child & Youth Well-Being Sessions for Families & Caregivers
The CBE invites all parents and guardians to join us for a live online series focused on supporting child and youth well-being. Hosted by the Recovery Alberta Community Education Service (CES) Program in collaboration with experts from the Calgary community, this year's sessions will explore a range of timely topics.
These sessions are free and provide information, resources, helplines, and services to support healthy child and youth development.

Our first meetings of the year are coming up! Please join us on Monday, September 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the learning commons (library). You'll get a chance to hear from school administration, get the latest info from your council & society executives, and ask questions. Everyone is welcome!
Healthy Hunger
This is an optional service for families and the decision to participate is up to each family. We have not reviewed the health standards at each restaurant, so we encourage families to make an informed choice.
- To participate in fun lunches create an account at Healthy Hunger to register. You will be notified when new lunches are posted and be able to view up-coming lunches, place orders and pay for orders online.
- If you are able to help out with the distribution of Healthy Hunger lunches, please let us know.
- **Please note all volunteers must have a valid police background check and a completed annual CBE volunteer registration form. **
