Drama
A huge thank you to all of the students and staff involved with our most recent Drama production: The Wedding Party, by Kristen Thomson. This was a phenomenal show! Special thanks goes to all the students who acted along with our stage hands, technical crew – sound, lights, sets, projection, props and costume department. We’d also like to thank our stage managers, assistant directors and promotions. Thanks to Ms. Crealock who helped backstage. Last but not least - thank you to Mr. Owen, our Drama Director, for his outstanding leadership and vision! Congratulations to all involved for a fabulous performance!
Model UN
Congratulations to our Model UN team. Our delegates won Most Outstanding delegation, which is the top group prize for the conference. This may be the first time Scarlett has received this top honour, after an exciting competition against teams from Churchill, Western, Wisewood, Westmount and Webber Academy. Go Lancers!
This weekend 14 of our finest competed at the 1st Annual Henry Wise Wood Model United Nations. Delegates were debating a variety of topics, and also representing characters from 2 special committees – the Court of Camelot and Dune. A huge thank you to all students who competed and to our teacher in charge Ms. Pelletier who has long helped build up this club at Scarlett. Thanks also to Mr. Hawboldt who assists the team as well. We are so proud of you all!

Student ID Card
Do you have a student ID card? A student ID card is required to sign out textbooks and class novels. If you do not have a government issued ID card, you will be required to have a student ID card to write diploma exams. Please see Mrs. Miller in the Learning Commons to have your student ID printed. Lost your card? See Ms. Popp in the business office for a $5 replacement.
Are You Interested in Joining Scarlett Rugby?
We will be having an interest meeting Wednesday Dec 20 in room 140 for all girls and boys interested in joining the school teams!!
- We will be running a girls team and a junior boys and senior boys team this year!
- No experience necessary
- No cut team – there is no tryout to make the team! Everyone welcome!!

Advanced Placement Exam – Accommodations
If you are writing an Advanced Placement exam this year (either for a first semester or second semester class) and would like to apply for accommodations, please contact Ms. Rip at slrip@cbe.ab.ca by Friday, January 12. Please note that accommodations used in class or for diploma exams do NOT automatically transfer to AP exams; an application must be sent by Ms. Rip directly to The College Board. Contact Ms. Rip with any further questions.
Course Changes for Semester 2
Student Services is now accepting requests for course changes for semester two. The online form will be open until January 14 at 11:59pm. Some restrictions apply; students are asked to discuss the requests with their family, and read through the important points on the form before making their requests, as only one submission will be considered. Students are encouraged to book an appointment with their guidance counsellor if they have any questions regarding course planning.

U of A Getaway
Now accepting applications for 20 lucky students to spend a weekend away at the University of Alberta.
Their adventure will include transportation reimbursement, accommodations, meals and a jam-packed schedule of events. They will stay in residence, visit state-of-the-art facilities, uncover hidden gems on campus and experience U of A student life first-hand. We’ll also take them around our city, including our breathtaking river valley and iconic West Edmonton Mall.

Youth Employability & Skills Strategy (YESS)

The YESS Program can support you in building skills for successful employment and career development. This program allows youth to navigate occupations, strengthen job search strategies, enhance soft skills, build networking and connect with certified training institutions. Grade 11 Scholarship Opportunity
The Horatio Alger Association of Canada provides $1.2 million annually in need-based scholarship support for deserving students in all Canadian provinces and territories.
Scholarships of up to $10,000 are awarded to full-time students in Grade 11 with financial need who have demonstrated integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity, a commitment to pursue a post-secondary education, a desire to contribute to society, and a good academic record.
REQUIREMENTS
To be eligible to apply for the Horatio Alger Scholarships of Canada, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be a current Grade 11 student with plans to graduate from high school and enter university in Fall 2025
- Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor's degree program at an accredited university
- Prove critical financial need ($65,000 or less annual net income per family is required)
- Demonstrate desire and ability to be entrepreneurial in a chosen field
- Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
- Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity
- Maintain a minimum grade percentage of 70
- Attend high school and reside in Canada
- Be Canadian citizens
