Dear Parents/Guardians,
There are a number of important events coming up. Please note that we have a non-instructional day on Dec 8. Our staff are doing training that day on assessment.
Also of note, we ended up having to cancel our practice lockdown last week as the CPS were unable to attend. We moved it to Tues. Dec 5 in the afternoon.
Athletics
Our swimmers are competing this week in a city wide swim and dive championship meet at MNP. Go Lancers go! Basketball and wrestling are also starting up and their schedule can be found on our website under Athletics.
Please follow them and come out to cheer them on this season! Our boys are playing Tuesday against Wisewood at home and our girls are playing Thursday against Central at home. We only open our gym to our own students, families and staff and of course those of the competing team.
Music
Jazz students were at MRU’s Nickle Theatre Friday for our All-Ages Jam Series celebrating improvisation alongside other Calgary area high school students and taking in some mentorship from a number of local pros.
Our Winter Celebration Concert will take place in the gorgeous Bella Concert Hall on Wednesday, December 6 starting at 6:30 PM and feature all Scarlett music students. Tickets are open to the public and available at https://tickets.mru.ca/Scarlett
Choir students will be at the second annual CBE Sings event on Friday, December 8. This event will bring together 9 choirs from CBE schools to share, sing, learn together and build our singing community.
In addition, we have been invited to perform and be featured with Calgary recording artist, Kenna Burima December 11, from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at The Eau Claire Neighbourhood Hub.
Leadership News
Helping Hampers is starting November 27 and will run until December 11. Students can donate in their period 1 classes, with all proceeds going directly to helping families in need in our school community over the holiday season. Each family will receive a sizable hamper of supplies and essentials. For every $2 donated, students will receive a ballot and be entered into a draw for a ton of fun prizes! Win a La-Z-Boy recliner to follow you around from class to class! Pizza lunch for you and your friends! “Own the Gym” - get the gym for one lunch hour for you and your friends! Amazon gift cards! Strip mall gift cards! Lancer swag and more! Let’s rally together and do great things to help families in need in our school.
Extended Absence Form
Schools discourage students from taking time away from classes, unless they are sick or have an appointment, as this can have a significant impact on learning. If a student will be on an extended absence, the form must be completed one week prior to the last day the student is in attendance. Extended absences are 5 or more consecutive instructional days. Students are required to meet directly with teachers prior to an extended absence, and teachers have the opportunity to provide some guidance as to next steps for the student. Student must meet with their Assistant Principal to review this form and address student expectations and responsibilities. Students who are absent for 10 or more consecutive instructional days must also meet with their Assistant Principal or Guidance Counsellor upon their return. This appointment will need to be booked prior to the last day in attendance. Please pick up the form in the main office.
