Dear Parents and Guardians,

Students are beginning to look at courses for next year and learned how they can pick them. Please talk to your child and ensure they make the deadline of March 3. Many of our families are celebrating the Lunar New Year this weekend - may the year of the dragon bring you good fortune and cherished memories. There is no school on Thursday or Friday next week due to Teachers' Convention and with Monday being Family Day there is a long weekend coming up.

Course Selection for Next Year

Next year Grade 11 and 12 registration is now underway! Students had a registration workshop on Friday February 9 in their classes. Students can select their courses in the Student PowerSchool portal, and can refer back to the presentation for support, which is linked in the Student Services D2L page.

The deadline to submit next year course requests is Sunday, March 3.

Robotics - Congratulations

At this weekend’s Robotics qualifier tournament at Nelson Mandela High School, both Scarlett teams (20718 - Lancelots and 22531 - Lancelittles) advanced to the finals rounds after scoring well in the qualification matches on Saturday. In the semis, the alliance with team 22531, won, to advance to the finals. In the finals, team 22531’s alliance just came up a little short to win.

At the awards ceremony, team 22531 was recognized as the runner up for the Connect award. Team 20718 won the Think Award for their excellent engineering portfolio, which documented the team’s journey through the robotics season. As the winner of the Think award, team 20718 is advancing to the provincial championships in Red Deer.

Both teams are to be congratulated for a great tournament along with their coaches Mr. Michaud and Ms. Wiebe!

Crush for Crush

Leadership will be selling Crush for Crush for Valentines Day on Feb 12th and 13th. Students can send a can of Crush soda and a nice message to another student period 2 class on Valentines Day for $2. Let’s show our love, Lancers!

Pink Shirt Day is Feb. 28 (date amended)

The first Pink Shirt Day was established by Travis Price and David Shepherd of Berwick, Nova Scotia. In 2007, they bought and shared 50 pink shirts after Chuck McNeill - a male ninth grader got bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. We invite students and staff to wear a pink shirt to school on February 28 to raise awareness around the damaging effects of bullying.

Fun Lunch

Thanks to our parents for organizing this for students. This is an optional service for families and the decision to participate is up to each family. We have not reviewed the health standards at each restaurant so we encourage families to make an informed choice.

  • Feb 22 Wok Box
  • Feb 29th Mucho Burrito

To participate in fun lunches create an account at www.healthyhunger.ca to register. You will be notified when new lunches are posted and be able to view up-coming lunches, place orders and pay for orders online.

Grade 10 Family Survey

The Alberta Assurance Survey has been sent to Grade 10 families – we kindly encourage you to take some time to complete this survey to share valuable insight into the pillars of education quality, citizenship, welcoming, caring, respectful and safe learning environments, student learning engagement, and; access to supports and services. It is important to note, when completing the survey, please be aware that responding “Don’t Know” to a question will count in the same category as the “dissatisfied or very dissatisfied”/”poor” or “very poor”/”disagree” or “disagree strongly” responses. “Don’t know” answers will impact the results of the survey negatively. If you “don’t know” the answer to a particular question, you should skip that question; that is, do not answer it, unless you intend your response to count as a negative one. Grade 10 students will also be completing this survey at school in the coming weeks.

Athletic Update

Our wrestlers did a terrific job at Ernest Manning last week. Our basketball players are having a great season as well. Please visit the athletics website for information on the upcoming spring sports: They include Boys Soccer, Girls Field Hockey, Rugby, and Track & Field.
