Dear Parents and Guardians,

Students will start their Semester 2 classes on Wed, Jan 31. Please note that report cards will become viewable on Tues. Jan. 30.

Report Cards

Families will be able to view online student report cards on Jan. 30, 2024. Report cards for the 2023-24 school year may be viewed, downloaded and/or printed. Are you not sure how to print report cards? https://school.cbe.ab.ca/school/DrEPScarlett/about-us/news-centre/_layouts/15/ci/post.aspx?oaid=b04bec2c-9dfc-46c2-ae18-18db06559a5c&oact=20001

Parking and School Roof Replacement

Our school roof is being replaced beginning next week. The parking bay next to the bus cages in the parking lot will be fenced and unavailable beginning next week and ending with the project. Please be advised that students should not attempt to park in any of those spots as the contractors may set up fencing on Monday or Tuesday, and we do not want to interrupt student learning to have them move their vehicles. Thank you!

Bus Service

Regular express bus service from the communities whose students attend Dr. E.P. Scarlett will return on the first day of Semester 2 classes, Wednesday, January 31st.

Students Interested in Exercising in the Weight Room?

Weight Room is open before school (7:30-8:30) and afterschool (3:45-5:00) on Monday through Thursday. Newcomers are always welcome. Come and give it a try!

Grade 10 Math Classes and Calculators

Students and parents new to Math 10C this semester, please note that graphing calculators are required. The most popular models are the Ti-84 plus, the Ti-83 plus, or the Casio fx 9750 GIII. If you decide to purchase a different model, then it is very important that you make sure it is approved by Alberta Education. Here is a link to the Alberta Education document regarding graphing calculators: https://www.alberta.ca/system/files/custom_downloaded_images/edc-calculator-information-and-rules.pdf

Students New to Math 10-3

Any scientific calculator is adequate.  It is preferable to have one with a screen that allows for more than one line of calculations. Please feel free to contact the math department with any questions.

Black History Month (February)

The theme for Black History Month 2024 is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; a Future to Build. During Black History Month, people in Canada celebrate the many achievements and contributions of Black Canadians and their communities who, throughout history, have done so much to make Canada a culturally diverse, compassionate, and prosperous country. Few people in Canada are aware of the fact that African people were once enslaved in the territory that is now known as Canada, or of how those who fought enslavement helped to lay the foundation of Canada’s diverse and inclusive society.

Black History Month is a time to learn more about these Canadian stories and the many other important contributions that Black Canadians and their communities have made to the history and continued growth of this country. Students are encouraged to take opportunities provided at school and elsewhere to learn more about the history and cultures of Black Canadians during the month of February.

Pink Shirt Day - Feb. 23

The first Pink Shirt Day was established by Travis Price and David Shepherd of Berwick, Nova Scotia. In 2007, they bought and shared 50 pink shirts after Chuck McNeill - a male ninth-grader got bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. We invite students and staff to wear a pink shirt to school on February 23 to raise awareness around the damaging effects of bullying.
