Moonlight Knights - Thank You

Moonlight Knights occurred last Thursday and was such a memorable event. This event was organized by our parents to support our music program! Students and their families enjoyed great food, outstanding music, a dance and an auction all in support of the music program at Scarlett! Thanks to Krista Lee, the chair of the EPSMPA (EP Scarlett Music Parents Association), Marta Kruse and Faye Garcia, who coordinated so much. We had the following committee members also contribute so much. Thank you to Tracy Bosworth, Tony Slotboo, Jenn Geisbrect, Jolene Kuipers, Sarah McKenna, Dana Kennedy and Michelle Schnurr. Mr. Brown and Mr. Bell your vision for music education at Scarlett is so strong and we are so happy to support it!

We are once again planning a trip to Europe for Spring 2025! This 10 day trip to Paris and Barcelona is intended for grade 10 or 11 students who are enrolled in a language program (Spanish or French). Students are welcome to attend an information meeting on Tuesday, May 14 at lunch in room 282.

There will be an information meeting for parents on Wednesday, May 15, at 5:30 in the Learning Commons. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Mrs. Olauson (saolauson@cbe.ab.ca).

EPS Connections

Scarlett has recently assembled another team of student leaders to represent the CBE’s SWAT initiative – Student Wellness Action Team. This committed group of students have been meeting regularly to discuss ways to make Scarlett a better place to be. Currently, they are working on a project to connect our community by raising awareness around the various acts of kindness that take place in our school – Connections over Confessions. These acts of kindness will be displayed on our school’s Instagram account and on a bulletin near the cafeteria. If you or your child have an act of kindness that they would like to share, please contact the school.

Soccer

The senior boys’ soccer team is having a great season in Division 1.  We are currently undefeated and heading into our last 3 games of the season before playoffs.  Next week, the boys will be playing at home on Tuesday against Notre Dame, followed by a back to back game Wednesday at All Saints.  Go Team!  Congratulations to Korben S who represented Dr. E. P. Scarlett at the Selects game last Friday.  He scored two goals and got one assist in the game.

Field Hockey

The Lancers Field Hockey team showed their grit and stamina this week, playing a relentless schedule under an absurdly wide range of weather conditions. They finished first in their pool in last weekend’s CLFHA Tournament, and came in fourth overall after two very close playoff games, both of which were decided in shootouts after being tied in regular time. Still going strong after 6 games over the weekend, the Lancers tied Lord Beaverbrook on Tuesday, and lost a very close game on Thursday against Bishop Carroll, playing in the heat with only two subs.

Rugby

The Senior and Junior Boys' rugby teams have developed their skills considerably since the beginning of the season. In their recent victory against Pearson, the team demonstrated great chemistry and a dominant rugby IQ, as well as strong leadership and a respect for the other side that did Scarlett proud. The boys will compete this weekend in the Clearwater 7s Tournament at the Calgary Rugby Union.

The senior girls rugby team continues to work hard to develop skill and tenacity on the field. They have been met by some tough opponents, but are looking forward to warmer weather and their upcoming games where they can show off their continued skill development. We are incredibly proud of their resiliency and how they work well together as a team!

Bamfield Marine Science Centre  Trip October 2024

A single spot exists on the Scarlett trip to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre (BMSC) in October 2024. The trip is open to current grade 10 or 11 students with a strong interest in Biology/Ecology/Marine Biology. We will be flying to Nanaimo on October 29 and returning on November 1 (4 days/3 nights). The cost of the trip will be approximately $2000. Interested students/parents should email Mr. McKillop (mdmckillop@cbe.ab.ca) for more information.

The BMSC is a working research station operated by 5 Universities that allows researchers and students to study a wide array of environments – including unique coastal, marine and rainforest habitats. Students will spend their time exploring these environments with a focus on hands on activities in the marine sciences.

DELE EXAM  - Spanish Exam

The DELE oral exams will take place on Monday May 13 and Tuesday May 14.  Please check your email for your date and time of the exam.  The written component will take place on Friday May 17.  All exams will take place at Dr. E.P Scarlett.  Make sure you bring all the documents and utensils specified in the email that you received from Marina Milan-Bugg. If your child is unsure of their scheduled time, or have questions regarding the exam, please ask them to email Ms. Malayko (kgmalayko@cbe.ab.ca).
