We look forward to getting to know you.

French immersion students will have the opportunity to work with Mat Mailandt in November during their FLA 10 periods. They will work on their oral French in an engaging and fun way. We are happy to welcome Mat in a few weeks.

GearUP for Winter

Do you need access to some free clothing for the winter season? See the poster under Resources.

Music Update

Choir and Band students have been working diligently with professional vocalists and instrumentalist as sections throughout this last week. On Thursday, our Choir had the opportunity to work with Dr. Mark Bartel, who directs the Calgary Philharmonic Chorus, in addition to the Ambrose University Singers. Some great learning in addition to some really positive feedback as well.

CAMDE Jazz Jam: Congratulations to those that joined us at the first of three CADME (Calgary Association for the Development of Music Education) All-Ages Jazz Jams at MRU on Friday. A huge turnout, it was exciting to see so many active participants!

Vic Lewis: Our grade 11/12 Instrumental Music students will be participating in the Vic Lewis Music Festival in Canmore this coming weekend (Nov 4-5). EP Scarlett Symphonic Band will be performing at 10:00 AM on Saturday and Jazz 1 is scheduled to play at 2:00 PM. If you’re interested in coming out, please touch base and we can provide further details.

Los Angeles Tour: If your child is joining us on tour to Los Angeles, please complete the survey that was sent out via Messenger, in addition to submitting a colour photocopy of their passport to the Music Office by Wednesday, Nov 1.

Calgary Transit Update

Calgary Transit has made changes this week to some of its routes, particularly Route 760, to improve service for students. Late or absent buses on express routes have been a concern, so at our request, Calgary Transit has attempted to make changes for improvement. Please contact Assistant Principal Jason Wutzke jbwutzkeatcbe.ab.ca with any questions or concerns about our express routes so that we can address them directly with our contacts at Calgary Transit.

Student Parking Reminder

With newly slippery conditions in our parking lots, we want to remind students and parents that students who have the privilege of parking at school are obligated to drive safely, park appropriately, and use caution in dangerous circumstances when operating vehicles. Serious damage to property and people can result from careless or reckless choices. We have had reports of student stunting in the parking lot, and we have observed students speeding into and out of the lot itself. It is so important that we act to keep each other safe. Any stunting, speeding, unsafe driving or inappropriate parking will result in, at least, loss of parking privileges at Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School.

Message from City of Calgary: Upcoming full closure

Phase one of required Enmax line relocation work is nearing completion and underground utility work is now underway. To accommodate installation of a storm pipe tie-in under the roadway and adjacent to the golf course, a full, six-week closure will be required. Starting on Monday, October 30, for approximately six weeks, there will be a full closure of all traffic lanes on 14 Street S.W., from Anderson Road to Canyon Meadows Drive S.W. Detour routes will be in place along Elbow Drive S.W., with signage and variable message boards posted to direct traffic. Access to adjoining communities and the Canyon Meadows Golf and Cou ntry Club will be maintained throughout construction. Updates will be posted on the project webpage throughout construction as details and schedules are confirmed.

Photo Retakes

Lifetouch will be returning to Scarlett for retakes on October 30th. Please see the link below to view and order images right away online. Proofs were handed out last week. See flyer under Resources.

Halloween Activities

Halloween events are around the corner! October 30 and 31 students have the opportunity to take a tour through our Scarlett Haunted House! Students are being encouraged to donate new or gently used clean socks for our Socktober fundraiser for entry into the haunted house. All donations will go to the Calgary Drop-In Center. *Warning* the haunted house will contain mature themes, jump scares, a strobe light and fog machine. If students have a sensitivity to flashing lights, they can request to have it turned off for their tour.

There will also be a costume contest on Tuesday October 31 at lunch in the main gym. Students have the option to take part in the contest by registering using the QR Code on posters at the school, or they may choose to be an audience member and vote on their favorite costumes!

Please note that costumes must be:

  • Culturally sensitive
  • No masks (with the exception of participants during the costume contest, once their identity has been confirmed)
  • No weapons

Fun Lunch

Thanks to our parents for organizing this for students! Our leadership students will also assist each day. This is an optional service for families and the decision to participate is up to each family. • Nov 16: Saucy Bread Company
  • Nov 30: Banzai
  • Dec 12: Coco Brooks
  • Dec 14: Golden Bell
