Calculator Requirements for New Grade 10s in Math Class

Greetings from the math department. Here are the recommended calculators based on our grade 10 courses.

Math 10-3: Any scientific calculator will have all the necessary features. A graphing calculator is not required.

Math 15: A scientific calculator will work for most of the course. However, since these students will be moving into Math 10C next semester, it is advantageous to get a graphing calculator early so that they can become familiar with its operation as part of their preparation for 10C. Please see the calculator recommendations for Math 10C below.

Math 10C: A graphing calculator is required. The most popular and user-friendly models are the Ti-84 plus, Ti-83 plus, and the Casio fx-9750GIII. These calculators will also be required for all dash 1 and dash 2 math courses in grade 11 and 12 as well as being a great tool for many of the Science classes. If you are wondering about a different model, it is important to make sure that it is approved by Alberta Education. Here is a link to the Alberta Education Policies regarding calculators:
https://www.alberta.ca/system/files/custom_downloaded_images/edc-calculator-information-and-rules.pdf

Please note that the school does not sell calculators, but they can be found at most major retailers. Please feel free to contact your child’s teacher directly if you would like further information.

Is your student on an IPP (Individualized Program Plan)?

Parents that wish to receive a current copy of their child’s IPP (if applicable) can do so by filling out a CONSENT TO EMAIL form (sent upon request) and return it to Shane Donovan. Once the document is received, the IPP can then be emailed to you. This is only for students with an Alberta Education Special Education Coding. If you have questions or would like to book a meeting about your child's IPP, please email: spdonovan@cbe.ab.ca
