Student Leadership – Speaker Sam Demma

On Wednesday September 24 Dr. E.P. Scarlett is pleased to welcome a keynote speaker, Sam Demma who will be giving a presentation to our entire student body. Sam Demma is a keynote speaker in education focused on helping students and schools cultivate hope and student leadership. He focuses on kindness and student service as major topics. Sam Demma is a best-selling author and an in-demand keynote speaker today. He has delivered nearly 700 performances across Canada, the United States, and Kenya. He delivered two TEDx talks, co-founded PickWaste—an organization that mobilized volunteers to pick up over 3000 bags of litter—and was awarded the prestigious Queen's Platinum Jubilee Award for his national contributions. In his spare time, you can find Sam reading books, dancing the bachata, or travelling the world with his giant red backpack. We are excited for Sam to work with our students.

Orange Shirt Day

On Friday September 26, we as a school will be recognizing Orange Shirt Day (and National Day for Truth and Reconciliation - Sept. 30). Students and staff are encouraged to wear an orange shirt on Friday, September 26 to honour the survivors and victims of residential schools, and their families and communities. National Day of Truth and Reconciliation is a day to foster education, truth-telling, and to reflect on the legacy of these institutions.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation – the City of Calgary will be hosting a series of events at various locations around the city on Tuesday September 30, in recognition of National Day of Truth and Reconciliation.

We can have fans from our school attend the game but you will need to show your school ID at the gates. Please know students from other schools cannot attend our games as these are rules set for all the high schools from the CSHSAA. Be sure to visit the athleticspage and calendar for all athletic information. Good luck to our boys volleyball team playing at the U of C in the tournament this weekend. Our girls had a great showing last weekend at the tournament and bonded as teams!

Dr. E.P. Scarlett High School Honour Roll

The Honour Roll for Semester 2 of the 2024-25 school year is posted. Please have students check to see if they have achieved Honours or Honours with Distinction. Students who would like print certificates of their achievement from Semester 2 must see Ms. Jenny Kinas in the Main Office on or prior to September 30 to request them. It will take approximately 2 weeks after that to have the certificates built and printed, and announcements will be made in school for students to collect the printed certificates.

Advanced Placement

Students who wish to challenge an AP exam in May should email Mr. Brandt at dmbrandt@cbe.ab.ca. Students have to be enrolled at Dr. E.P. Scarlett. The deadline to register for an exam is October 30.

Fitness Centre

The Fitness Centre will be open after school every Monday through Thursday from 3:45 to 5:00. Students who want to use the room must complete an Acknowledgement of Risk and Student Agreement form prior to using the room. These forms can be picked up at the main office. Completed forms can be brought to the Fitness Centre on your first visit or brought to the main office.

Grade 10 Math Classes and Calculators

Students and parents new to Math 10C or Math 15 this semester, please note that a graphing calculator is required. The most popular models are the Ti-84 plus, the Ti-83 plus, or the Casio fx 9750 GIII. If you decide to purchase a different model, then it is very important that you make sure it is approved by Alberta Education.

For a student new to Math 10-3. Any scientific calculator is adequate.  It is preferable to have one with a screen that allows for more than one line of calculations.

For all new Students in General: Math 20-1, 20-2, 30-1, 30-2, 31 or math AP classes all require a graphing calculator the same as specified above for grade 10’s.
