Dear Families

Please find information below to assist you. Please note our website has the entire yearly calendar with most major events on it for you to see and download if you would like. We have some exciting news to share about next school year in terms of modulars.

Modular Classrooms

We are happy to share that the Government of Alberta has approved modular classrooms for our school.  The CBE is currently working with Alberta Education and Childcare to determine the final cost to confirm how many modular units can be installed at our school, as well as the timing for installation.

Final costing for the modulars will be available in December. By the new year we will be able to confirm the number of modulars to be installed next spring. Should the modulars not be placed this school year, CBE will re-request modulars as soon as possible under the Modular Classroom Program.  More information will be shared as it becomes available.

Student ID Cards

If you have not yet received your student ID card for this school year, please visit Ms. O'Bray in the Library to have one printed.

Ms. O'Bray is available to assist you before school, at lunch and during your spare.

Having your student ID card is important for accessing school events, signing out textbooks and more. Be sure to stop by soon!

Student Leadership – Speaker Sam Demma

On Wednesday September 24 Dr. E.P. Scarlett is pleased to welcome a keynote speaker, Sam Demma, who will be giving a presentation to our entire student body. Sam Demma is a keynote speaker in education focused on helping students and schools cultivate hope and student leadership. He focuses on kindness and student service as major topics. Sam Demma is a best-selling author and one of the most in-demand keynote speakers today. He has delivered nearly 700 performances across Canada, the United States, and Kenya.

The regular volleyball season was off and running this week, with both our girls’ and boys’ teams having their home openers!  Our Senior Boys and Junior Boys teams had a strong showing at the Dino’s Volleyball Tournament on the weekend, with our Senior Boys winning 3rd place in the consolation bracket and our Junior Boys finishing in the Top 10 overall. Both boys’ volleyball teams had strong wins against Bishop McNally on Thursday! Our girls have been playing strong and working well as a team!

Cross Country had their first meet, with an impressive 9th place finish as a team.  Our Lancer Golf team represented our school this week at the CISAA Golf Zones Championship with some strong scores.  The Girls Soccer team had a hard-fought battle with Ernest Manning ending in a 0-0 tie and then played Western Canada on Thursday where they fought hard but came up short. Football had no games this week but will be facing Father Lacombe next week! Go Lancers!

Textbooks, Novels & Loaned Materials

There are many outstanding textbooks, novels and other loaned materials that have not yet been returned to the school from the 2024-25 school year.  The cost of those materials was added to MyCBE accounts in June 2025.  Parents/guardians, please log into your account and check to ensure your student has returned those materials to the school. If those materials were lost or damaged, full payment is required.  All textbooks and novels are to be returned directly to Mrs. Miller, our Library Assistant where she will scan the textbooks/novels back into the system and they will automatically be removed from MyCBE accounts.  Please remind your student those materials will not be accepted at the main office.

Student Lockers

Most students who registered for a locker during the summer have received their locker information.  If there were delays or issues with registrations, students were contacted directly.  Students who registered by September 2 and have not received an email from the business office can send an email to Ms. Popp, Business Manager at kedpopp@cbe.ab.ca.  Please do not register a second time as duplicate registrations make the assignment process more cumbersome and can create significant delays with the locker assignments.  If students are having issues or difficulties opening their locker, they can reply to the email that was sent to them with their locker information stating the exact issue and Ms. Popp will provide assistance as soon as possible.

Student Absences

When your child is absent, please call the school at 403-281-3366. Dial 1 to leave a message on our absentee line. Please provide the reason for absence and, after saying the student's name, spell the last name for the message.

This is our way of ensuring that absences have been excused by parents or guardians. We cannot accept email notice of excused absences; please provide notice over the phone only to excuse a student's absence.

Calgary Transit Express Bus Concerns

Administration has received a number of complaints this week regarding student behaviour on our community express buses. Please remind your child that the same code of conduct applies to students on the bus as in school, and that the school will use the CBE progressive discipline policy and, if necessary, involve our School Resource Officer to ensure the security of students on the bus.

If you have concerns about transit operations, such as bus lateness, delays, or other problems, please feel free to contact Assistant Principal Jason Wutzke: jbwutzke@cbe.ab.ca.

If you have concerns about specific events or specific behaviours of students on our express buses, please contact your child's specific assistant principal for help. Thank you for helping us ensure that our students get to and from school safely.

Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth

The Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth will begin to meet weekly on Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:00 pm in Room 141.  Parental consent forms will be available at the first meeting.  This is a great opportunity for newcomer youth to make friends, gain leadership skills, access resources and support, and find a sense of belonging.  For more information email MJfelescoso@cbfy.ca www.cbfy.ca

Students, if you have a period 1, 2 or 4 spare this semester, and you enjoy language and reading, please consider volunteering in Scarlett's English as an Additional Language class.  Please see Ms. Crealock in Room 141 for details.
