A reminder to families that you should have received an email to complete forms online regarding demographic verification, citizenship information, and annual authorizations (including media releases) this week. We kindly ask that you complete these as soon as possible so our records are up-to-date and current.

We held an assembly for all of our students last week. Please find a link for parents so you can also see what students heard. This assembly focused on expectations here at the school.

Bamfield Marine Science Centre Trip October 2024

A single spot on the Scarlett trip to the Bamfield Marine Science Centre (BMSC) in October 2024 remains. The trip is open to current grade 11 or 12 students with a strong interest in Biology/Ecology/Marine Biology. We will be flying to Nanaimo on October 29 and returning on November 1 (4 days/3 nights). The cost of the trip will be approximately $2000. Interested students/parents should email Mr. McKillop (mdmckillop@cbe.ab.ca) for more information.

The BMSC is a working research station operated by 5 Universities that allows researchers and students to study a wide array of environments – including unique coastal, marine and rainforest habitats. Students will spend their time exploring these environments with a focus on hands on activities in the marine sciences. 

Debate Club

This club fosters skills of argumentation and logical reasoning. We are a welcoming environment that supports a safe space for learning important skills. There will be optional weekend tournaments.

Startup meetings will be held in Room 125 after school. The days are as follows:

  • Returning members will meet on Tuesday, September 10 at 3:30pm.
  • New members are welcome to attend on Tuesday, September 17 at 3:30pm. 

Assessment Centre

Assessment Centre is run twice a week to help students complete tests, essays or quizzes missed when they have been away from class. Assessment Centre runs on Mondays after school from 3:40-5:05 pm and on Wednesday mornings from 7:20-8:45 am in Labs A & B. Please have your teen let their teacher know which assessment they have to complete and what date they will come. Assessment Centre starts on Monday, September 9. 

Science Help Room

The Science Help Room is open! Come see Mr. Wyton or Mrs. Ullyott in Room 151 any day, Monday through Thursday between 8 - 8:45, for help with any of your science courses.   

Healthy Hunger

This is an optional service for families and the decision to participate is up to each family. We have not reviewed the health standards at each restaurant, so we encourage families to make an informed choice.

To participate in fun lunches, create an account at www.healthyhunger.ca to register. You will be notified when new lunches are posted and be able to view up-coming lunches, place orders and pay for orders online.

If you are able to help out with the distribution of Healthy Hunger lunches, please click on the following link to sign up.

Scholarship Update and the Alex Bus

Girls in Aviation

Saturday, September 21 – 11 am – 4pm; Red Deer Regional Airport (event is free but there is a $40 ticket that includes transportation from Calgary, lunch and swag)

At Girls in Aviation Day you can expect to see an array of pilots, aircraft, local companies, colleges, and aviation schools, along with numerous professionals present to engage in conversations about aviation careers, aiming to ignite the aspirations of upcoming generations.

The event primarily caters to girls aged 8 to 17, but it warmly welcomes attendees of all backgrounds. Gather your family, friends, troops, and groups to delve deeper into the realm of aviation! Experience hands-on educational activities designed to impart knowledge about aviation principles and the STEM fields encompassing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Note: This is not a CBE sponsored event. There will be no supervision provided and takes place outside school hours!

Job Shadow Day: Careers in Finance

Thursday, October 24, 2024 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Young women and gender-diverse students in grades 11-12 are invited to register for this free, day-long, interactive event! Students will have the opportunity to see and experience the many impactful and rewarding careers available in finance.

VersaFi’s Job Shadow Day program brings eligible senior high school students to downtown Calgary for the day to learn about careers in finance, meet professionals, and tour offices at participating firms.

Students will start the day at CIBC from 8:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and then will travel in smaller, pre-assigned groups to their afternoon firms from 12:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Students are expected to make their own way to CIBC and their own way home from their assigned afternoon firms. Students must register with the support of a teacher. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Free event for young women in grades 11 & 12 - October 24, 2024!
